Class Period #28 Index to Quizzes Review this lesson's video
REVIEW - Still need some good scores!
INTRO:
Get with Colonel Whicker to schedule your test; either Thu, 14 May @ 1330 or
Wed, 20 May, 1130 @ UMA. REMEMBER:
1 - you need to know your FTN (FAA Tracking #) in order to register for the test
at
https://faa.psiexams.com
3 - sit down with Col Whicker to finalize your exam slot so he can enter payment
info
4 - you only have 10 minutes from the time you schedule until payment info has
to be input, or your scheduled slot goes away!
5 - take a government-issued ID
that has a photo, birthdate and CURRENT address, along with my
certification letter
6 - the North Salt Lake City PSI site does not charge the $64 convenience fee,
so go for that one if it's available for your time frame
BIG TOPIC #1:
Test-taking tips (you're going to be taking tests the rest of your careers, so
get used to it!)
- USE ALL AVAILABLE MATERIALS & "CHEAT SHEETS"
-- The Sectional Chart Legend (Legend #1 in your test supplement)
-- The Chart Supplement (Green Book) - there is a key to EVERY ITEM in an
airport's info (Legend #2 in your test supplement)
-- Your Flight Computer has these cheat sheets printed right on it:
--- how to figure density altitude; how to go from TC to CH (compass heading)
and anything in between
--- how to do a wind problem to get WCA (wind correction angle) and GS (ground
speed)
--- how to do time/distance problems, or any variation thereof; how to figure
fuel consumption
-- Every performance chart has an example printed on it; follow the instructions
given in the example and just plug in your problem's variables
-- Use your calculator, even for simple math, just to be sure you don't make a
simple mistake
-- USE SCRATCH PAPER! Immediately when you sit down, draw the VOR with
radials 030 and 210, with a dotted perpendicular line for reference on any VOR
question
-- Remember, the flight computer doesn't know where to put the decimal point;
once you come up with an answer, work it BACKWARDS to make sure your decimal
point makes sense
BE CALM! HAVE CONFIDENCE! You have seen 58 of the 60 questions you
your randomized test before - you know this stuff!
BIG TOPIC #2:
Your requested review items:
- Compass Correction Card (for deviation) - Fig 58
- Question 9-32: VOR Test Signal (think of always trying to go to where it's
warm, like SOUTH!)
- ALL figures in the test supplementPulsating Approach Path Indicator
(P-VASI or PLASI) - I don't believe it'll be on the test, but if it is, treat it
like a regular PAPI
- "Pulsating
visual approach slope indicators (PVASI, aka PLASI) normally consist of a single
light unit projecting a two-color visual approach path into the final approach
area of the runway upon which the indicator is installed. The on-glidepath
indication is a steady white light. The slightly below-glidepath indication is a
steady red light. If the aircraft descends farther below the glidepath, the red
light starts to pulsate. The above-glidepath indication is a pulsating white
light. The pulsation rate increases as the aircraft gets farther above or below
the desired glideslope."
Little Topic: Selected FARs - we don't have time to go into these in detail, so study this sheet and Chapter 12 in your Test Guide (Handout)v
Miscellany: MAKE SURE
YOU TAKE MY LETTER OF ENDORSEMENT TO THE TEST! You cannot test without it!
HOMEWORK: I cannot endorse you for the full FAA exam until you show me 3 80%+ scores on the practice tests. You have until the end of May.
