From the Wicker/Whicker Newsletter, Nov. 1994:
"Jasper N. Wicker was a respected and esteemed teacher for 31 years in the
Forsyth County, NC area. In 1906 he taught in a one teacher school at Bluff
and was paid $140 for the entire term. He had 54 students!
!"He once replaced a teacher who had lost control of his students. Jasper had
rather large ears so one of the boys jumped up on one of the benches, put his
thumbs to his ears, waved his hands, and shouted, "Here come the elephants!"
Jasper knocked him off the bench to the floor, jumped up on the bench himself
and asked the group, "Any more elephants?" All that could be heard from that
time on was breathing. This man, Jasper, was one of the most mild mannered
persons existing but he knew how to do what had to be done."Information which is on this family but does not appear in the Wicker/Whicker
