Birthmonth and year taken from the 1900 census, Appanoose Co., Iowa. Note
that this birthyear is a year and a half before the marriage of George and Mary
Lucinda. I would wonder if George was married once before except that he was
only 21 when he married Mary Lucinda! Of course, he was only 19 when William
P. was born. Perhaps marriage records need to be verified. rcw

William was Pvt., Co. F, 11th Inf., 51st Indiana Volunteers, serving from 31
Aug 1861 to 30 Aug 1864. In the Battle of Stone River he believed that he
might be killed so he wrote a farewell message in his diary with a sharpened
stick and blood from his finger. He said, "Now if I should the ill fate to get shot, the person that finds this book will please send it to my father, Thomas Wicker, Manilla, Rush Co., Indiana." William was captured at Moulton, AL as he was carrying water to wounded men. He and the wounded men were marched to Col.Randy's camp, thence to Huntsville, AL, Chattanooga, TN, Briston, VA, Lynchburg, VA and to Richmond, VA. He was confined in Libby Prison, an old tobacco warehouse, along with over 2000 prisoners from Gen. Hooker's army.In the 1900 census of Van Buren Twp., Shelby Co., Indiana, William states that he owns his farm free and clear of mortgage. rcw

Information from the 1900 census of Shelby Co., Indiana states that David owns
his farm free and clear of mortgage, and that he and Frances have had 6
children, five of whom are living at the time of this census. We have only
four listed. However, next door to David and Frances is William F. or I.
Wicker, b. July 1873 in Indiana, with his wife Sarah and children Wayne and
Opal. I believe this William is David's son, and have listed him as "Poss."
until further research is done. The other child, who is deceased by 1900,
needs to be found, too. rcw
