Descendants of Henry Whicker

Notes

1040. Matthew Underwood

The IGI has Matthew's birthyear as 1830, so he may have been the first child
instead of the 4th child.  rcw

1041. Dorcas H. Underwood

A submission to the Ancestral File by Karen L. Byington, Rt. 168, Valdosta, GA,
31601, says that Dorcas was born in 1828 and that her spouse is WILLLIAM Mackey
rather than John C. Mackey. I wrote to Karen on Jul 27, 1995. rcw
!Another source listed, on the IGI, states that Dorcas was born in 1830.

1043. Wright E. Underwood

1844 Birthdate taken from the IGI. rcw
!There is a whole family, including a William F. Etheredge b. 1838 in Wilkinson
Co., Georgia, who have the parents HARRIS ETHEREDGE and ELIZABETH BRANAN,
listed on the IGI. Relationship almost a certainty. rcw

1044. George W. Underwood

619. Nancy Underwood

Nancy died before her parents. rcw

1052. Seaborn B. Underwood

1053. Nancy Underwood

1054. Susannah Underwood

633. William Whicker

Buried in Mt. Pleasant Methodist Cemetary, Forsyth Co, NC.

1060. James F. Whicker

James F. died while a prisoner of the North. He was a Private, Co. D., 27th
NC Infantry, CSA. rcw
!DIED while a prisoner of the North in the U.S. Civil War. He was a Private,
Company D, 27th North Carolina Infantry. (Information from the Whicker/Wicker
Family book, published by R. Fenton Wicker, Virginia Beach, Virginia, 1990.

635. Martha Whicker

Info from Joyce M. Barfuss, 147 Ethel Dr., Nampa, ID 83651, who lists Kansas
City Mo. Health Dept and Dept of Interior, Washington, D.C. as her sources.
I wrote to her on 21 Oct 1990, and the letter was returned, addressee unknown.
My big question for her was where she got the middle name, "Oliver", for James?
It most certainly should be Oliphant.

636. Susannah (Susan A.) Whicker

DEATH: headstone at Denny Cemetery, Appanoose Co., Iowa, shows her name as
"Susanna, wife of O.A. Hiett", and, though the dates are hard to read as of 18
Jan 1992, it appears to list her death date as 28 Aug 1861 instead of 1867.

Orren Austin Hiatt

BIRTH: 1856 Iowa State Census lists him as age 28; his wife Susan as age 34,
occupation: farmer. (listed as "Oren K. Hiatte")
At the time of the 1856 census, James O. and Benjamin Whicker were listed as
living with them. rcw
!The Ancestral File, 1993 edition, gives Orren's name, parents and spouse's
name only, submitted by Larry & Tanya Anderson, 5901 So. 122nd Street, Omaha,
NE 68137-3404. Submission was in 1989. rcw

638. Elijah Whicker

DEATH: "EARLY PIONEER STORIES," p. 123, published by Appanoose County
Genealogical Society, Centerville, Iowa 52544, states that O.A. Wicker's
father, Elijah, died on 23 Dec 1856, and that his mother, Eliza, lingered with the typhoid fever until June 1857. If this is the same Elijah, as I'm sure it is, then this date needs to be updated. Glenn Whicker has written a note on a family group work sheet that Benjamin James Whicker, Elijah's brother, took Elijah's children in 1863. Where were they before that? Where did we get this death date of 1861 in the first place, and that he died in Stokes Co, NC?
!MARRIAGE: "EARLY PIONEER STORIES" grw

I have changed the deathplace on this record. rcw

Eliza Vermilia

DEATH: and name comes from account of O.A. Wicker, in "EARLY PIONEER STORIES",
published
by Appanoose County Genealogical Society, Centerville, Iowa, 52544, p. 123.
Book in possession of Glenn R. Whicker
!BIRTH: 1856 Iowa State Census lists her as age 27, born in North Carolina

1078. Sarah E. Wicker

BIRTH: "EARLY PIONEER STORIES," p. 123, published by Appanoose County
Genealogical Society, Centerville, Iowa, 52544. Also, listed as 4 years old in
1856 Iowa State Census for Appanoose County.
!NOTE: Probate #306 gave custody of all the children to Benjamin Whicker,
after the parents both died of typhoid fever in 1856 and 1857

1079. Mary Wicker

BIRTH: "EARLY PIONEER STORIES," p. 123, published by Appanoose County
Genealogicl Society, Centerville, Iowa, 52544. (possession of Glenn R.
Whicker); also, 1856 Iowa State Census for Appanoose Co, shows her age 2
!NOTE: Probate #295 gave custody of Mary and James L. Wicker to Jonathan
Casebear. Probate #306 gave custody of them and their older siblings, Orren
and Sarah E. to Benjamin Whicker

1080. James L. Wicker

BIRTH: "EARLY PIONEER STORIES," p. 123, published by Appanoose County
Genealogical Society, Centerville, Iowa, 52455. (possession of Glenn R.
Whicker); also, 1856 Iowa State Census shows him as 0 years old
!NOTE: Probate #295 gave custody of James L. and Mary Wicker to Jonathan
Casebear. Probate #306 gave custody to Benjamin Whicker

639. John Ephraim Whicker

Proxy for John E. Whicker was Ben Richard Whicker, great-great nephew.
John E. Whicker was married in the 1850 census, but NOT marked as "Married
Within the Census Year". Thus, the date of the census, which was September 23,
1850, would most likely be the "year" that they were talking about, so that he
would have already been married before September of 1849, and possibly before
June of 1849. He also has a death date in some records as the year 1850,
which may be true, but he was alive in September of 1850. rcw

642. Benjamin James Whicker

(Benjamin has only been sealed to his father. Check on sealing to mother.)

Benjamin J. Whicker emigrated to Appanoose Co., Iowa with his father when he
was 18 years old.

DEATH: from gravestone at Denny Cemetery, Appanoose County, Iowa: Ben J.
Whicker, 1833-1907. His father's stone is nearby, listed as James O. Wicker.

Marriage records in Iowa show UGENIA HIATT married to Benjamin Whicker on 2
Feb 1861 instead of in 1859. However, in the 1860 census, they indicate that
they were married "within the year", so we have accepted that information to
verify their 1859 marriage date.

The 1860 census also tells us that both Benjamin and Zuriah were illiterate at that time.

In an old note that was written by Beulah King Whicker, wife of Benjamin Archie Whicker, there is a partial list of the children of Benjamin James and Lydia Boyer. Only four children are listed there, and we have them all except for one: William H. Whicker. This may possibly be the youngest baby, who died right at birth. (See note for last child.) Grandma (Beulah) got this list from a lady in Louisiana who is evidently working on this line, and has probate records of some sort. I have written to her (2-23-98):
Mrs. Tammie Marvel
5609 Angelia Ave.
Alesancria, Louisiana 71303

Lydia Boyer

!DEATH: gravestone in Denny Cemetary, Appanoose County, Iowa, states: "Lydia,
wife of Ben J. Whicker, Sep 11, 1836; Mar 29, 1909. (Photo of the stone
clearly showing dates is in possession of Glenn R. Whicker.)
!BIRTH: 1885 Iowa State Census says she was 47, born in Indiana

1087. Robert Irvin Whicker

Last change:18 Mar 1996

DEATH: headstone, Hanes Cemetary, Douglas Township, Appanoose County, Iowa

1089. Benjamin Pearl Whicker

I cannot find Benjamin Pearl Whicker in 1900 or 1920. 1910 needs to be
searched. rcw

1091. Whicker

This little son was alive until the moment of birth. There was a shoulder
presentation. This information from the baby's mother while she was yet alive. This child may have been named William H. (See notes for Benjamin James, the father.) rcw

Zuriah Hiatt

DEATH: Denny Cemetery, Appanoose Co., Iowa, headstone says the following,
which does not agree with the information above:
"Zeruiah, wife of B. Whicker, Oct 15 1862, aged 23 yrs. 1 mo."

The 1860 gives her age as 31, which would make her born in 1829 instead of
1839. rcw
