497. George Washington Whicker
The 1849 date listed in the IGI is suspect, as the first six children were born before that
year! We do not, as yet, have a marriage date for George and Penelope. If
this marriage date turns out to be correct, then Penelope is not the mother of
the first 6 children. The source for this information (1849) needs to be
checked. rcw
Robert was a Civil War Private, Company C.., 1st Regiment of Alabama
Volunteers CSA. Captured Gettysburg. (Wicker/Whicker book, pg. 91) rcw
Matthew J. Whicker was in the 51st Alabama Cavalry or the Mounted Infantry,
Pike County, Alabama. rcw
Emma P. Whicker is entered on the IGI as married to John Paulding Coga in
January of 1868 in Pike county, Alabama. This could possibly be a different
Emma, but since Emma's middle initial is P. and she was born in Pike County and
the month and year of marriage are the same, I believe there is probably a
problem in someone's records. This was not a personal submission, so no
correspondence is possible. rcw
Lived in Lubbock, Texas. rcw
Nancy may be daughter of Elias and Mary Dowling of Jefferson Creek, S.C. If
so, the Dowling line is well done on the Ancestral File. rcw

In the 1880 census, Robert E. Whicker and family are found in Lee County,
Arkansas.
!Robert Elisha is given in the Wicker/Whicker book as the second child of his
parents, but on the 1860 census of Macon Co., Alabama, he is listed as 32 years
old, born in Alabama and one year older than his brother, Julius, who is listed
as the eldest child in the Wicker/Whicker book. I have listed most children for
this record according to the census record. rcw
Some of the information on this family comes from "The Wicker Family of the
South" by Mary Helen Sears Foxx, 6533 W. Mountain View Rd., Glendale, AZ
(address as of 1986) rcw
Lucinda went to Texas to live with a child after her husband died in Alabama.

in a letter to Rea C. Whicker, Kaysville, Utah in 1971.

Richard may be the son of Britten or Brittain Wicker instead of Robert Elisha
Holley Wicker. See Vol. 2, #3, May 1993, of the Wicker/Whicker newsletter. rcw
This deathdate and place may be wrong, but I believe they are correct. I
found Elijah Wicker in the Mortality Census of Texas for 1860. This record
indicates that he was 26 years old, however, and that would make his birthyear
1833. I think that was probably just a discrepancy. Typhoid Fever was listed
as the cause of death. rcw
889. Nathaniel Archibald Wicker
The marriage date of 1846 differs from the Wicker/Whicker book's date of 1848.
I took the 1846 date straight from the Washington County, GA., marriage
records. rcw
Named in Thomas Faulk Wicker's will in Washington Co., Georgia. rcw
Stephen is in the 1860 census of Moore County, has not been found after that
time. rcw
