Virginia Beach, VA 23464.
!DEATH: Headstone located at Denny Cemetary, Appanoose County, Iowa. Photo
taken by Glenn R. Whicker as proof. Listed as "James O. Wicker" on stone.
!BIRTH: Headstone gives precise death date and states: "died in the 78th year
of his age." Priscilla A. Boswell, 19325 66th Ave, W., Lynnwood, WA
98036-5155, sent the month of May as James' deathdate, stating that she took
this information from the Denny Cemetery also. She also gives the information
that he moved to Iowa in 1851 according to the 1856 Appanoose County, Iowa
census, and was listed at that time as a widow. rcw
The 1856 Appanoose County, Iowa census lists James O Whicker as a widower.
This is the source for the approximate deathdate of Elizabeth Ogbern. She may
have been deceased before he moved to Iowa in 1851. rcw
Our records show "ABT 1790 for Mary's birthdate. The IGI lists 1795. Her

Proxy for Endowment: Ben Richard Whicker
The IGI entry for "Lureta" has the following for her birthplace:
"Mill Creek Mm,Hendricks,Indiana"
A capital MM would indicate Quaker Monthly Meeting. I do not know whether this is what the submitter meant or not. Batch #7719414-11, F#1059285. rcw
ENDOWMENT & SEALING TO PARENTS: accomplished by M. John Whicker
IGI shows an Eli Whicker marrying Elezabeth Phillips on 3 Jul 1823 in Stokes
County. Will check submission to see if this is our Eli for sure. It probably
is, as there are no other Eli Whickers in Stokes Co. that we know of. 10-18-93
Batch#7811804-76, F#1126302
!Norman Scott gives this woman's first name as Mary rather than Elizabeth. His
information is in my files under Parsons, Mike. Mike is the one who sent me
this man's records. rcw

This family moved, according to the Wicker/Whicker book, to Shelby Co., Indiana
from North Carolina about 1827, back to North Carolina in 1833 and by 1837 they
were once again in Shelby County, IN.
A William C. Wicker married Mary Jane Hester on 28 Feb 1842 in Shelby County,
Indiana. William would hve only been 14, so I don't believe this could have
been the right William. However, I have put this note in just in case we find
that it is him. rcw
