Descendants of Henry Whicker

Notes

318. Jane Whicker

Jane and her husband moved to Washington Co., GA at the same time as her
father, Robert Whicker. Robert owned land in Georgia in 1789.

The IGI gives birthdate of 25 May 1759. The date recorded here comes from the
Whicker/Wicker book by R. Fenton Wicker.

Thomas English

Revolutionary War, 8th VA Regiment. Wounded in Battle of Eutaw Springs.

484. Thomas English

Thomas was born in a fort near the family home, where the women had been moved
for safety during the Revolutionary War.

319. William Whicker

Movements within the U.S., according to William's Pension Record, were:
1. Virginia to Anson Co., N.C. - 1765
2. To Chesterfield Co., S.C. - 1777
3. To Columbia Co., GA - 1789
4. To Washington Co., GA - 1791
5. To Wilkinson Co., GA
6. To Barbour Co., GA by 1837
7. To Pike Co., AL by 1840

No proof of children's names. However, George Washington Whicker signed as
witness on William's power of attorney to pick up William's pension in Mobile,
AL. George W. Whicker also lived next door to William in Pike Co., AL in the
1850 census. Other possible sons were Matthew and Henry.

Obituary states: "Died in Pike County, Alabama on Sunday, the 20th of December
last, Mr. William Wicker. The deceased was aged 106 years. He served as a
soldier in the Revolutionary War. He was in the battle of Eutaw Springs, and
was engaged in several skirmishes with the British and Tories under Genearl
Marion of South Carolina." The Wicker/Whicker book, however, gives hisbirthday as 22 Dec 1760, which would have made him only 92 years old. It is
possible that the researcher of the book has confused this William with another
by the same name in the same area. Obituary taken from REVOLUTIONARY SOLDIERS
IN ALABAMA, Birmingham Public Library, Birmingham, AL. rcw

William was appointed in 1811 to a Board of Commissioners to choose a sight
for the County Seat of Wilkinson County, Georgia. rcw

321. Rachel St. Julien Whicker

The marriage date for Rachel and Mr. Deason has been submitted to the IGI as
1789. All of the children were born BEFORE that year! Since Rachel was only
22 i 1789, I don't believe she can be the mother of these children.
Evidently, this was a second marriage for Mr. Deason, and the children
actually belong to the first wife. This needs to be resolved. rcw
As a widow of Mr. Deason, a Revolutionary Soldier, Rachel received a land grant
on 7 Jul 1788 in Washington Co., Georgia. rcw

499. Hannah Deason

Hannah was the first person to be buried in the present Bethlehem Baptist
Church Cemetery. rcw

according to Mrs. Deloyce Eaton (see Wicker/Whicker Book) He is listed as
having two wives in the Wicker book, but Mrs. Eaton has proven there was only
one wife. (11-22-94)

Elisha Calloway

This marriage was found in "Historical Collections" by Maddox, a miscellaneous
gathering of names and dates and events of Georgia. Only the year of marriage
was given. rcw

325. Nancy Whicker

The IGI states that Nancy was born i 1777 instead of 1773, and in Washington
Co., Georgia instead of Anson Co., NC. This should
be resolved if possible for identity's sake....with other records. rcw

326. Nathaniel Holley Whicker

Nathaniel lived in the hand-hewn log house probably built by his grandfather
Nathaniel Holly about 1874-1885, 2 1/4 miles out of Warthen on the Davisboro
Rd. Chimney and log portions of the house survived to the 1980s. (From History
of Washington Co., GA, written by Bill Sears.) rcw
